Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" place. People unfamiliar with the term often think that it's an island that's in the west of Montreal However, in reality it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the case of Brugel it was a suggestion from her drama teacher. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most media attention after she was offered the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member for the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
