Taylor Swift, in full Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13 1989 West Reading Pennsylvania U.S.) American pop and country music singer and songwriter, whose stories of heartbreak in the early years achieved wide popularity in the first decade of the 21st century. Swift showed an interest in music from a young age, and quickly moved from roles in theatre for children until her first performance before the crowd of a thousand. Swift was just 11 when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers Basketball game. The following year she started writing her own songs, and also picked up the guitar. Swift composed original music inspired by the country music of performers like Shania Twain (now known as the Chicks) as well as Dixie Chicks. Her material was a reflection of Swift's experiences as a tween and the feeling of alienation. Swift's parents moved her to Tennessee when she was 13 after selling their Pennsylvania farm. It allowed Swift to be more active in courting labels for traditional music from Nashville.
